Camp was a stark contrast to how we’d been before. Rebecca huddled under her sleeping bag, Cody stared out into the darkness as the first watch, and Ben, always energetic, always restless, paced just outside the ring of stones, muttering and growling softly to himself.
It seemed, even with Jayson exiled, he refused to leave.
Even I couldn’t rest. I’d chosen the third watch, usually the most difficult, but my mind refused to let me sleep. Rebecca was so close I could smell her, and Ben’s scent on her skin, too.
Strangely, I wasn’t as jealous as I thought I would be that he’d taken his chance with her and been successful. It just solidified my belief that she was resourceful and smart. A female Omega would rattle cages. But… A female Omega bound to other clans who would then be forced to back her, was a revolution.
I closed my eyes and focused on the warmth from the fire, trying to ignore my aching cock. All I’d wanted to do was tear Rebecca’s clothes off and make mine so Jayson…or anyone else, could never claim her.
I wasn’t even sure anymore if I wanted to be the Omega. For me it was a slap in the face of my birth clan, a gauntlet thrown down for my parents to prove I would never be their victim again. But Rebecca wanted not just the title, but the responsibility. If I’d been asked to choose our next leader, I would’ve had a hard time justifying choosing myself over her.
Moreover, she was bloody strong and could take the challengers. I’d seen them as I raced toward them, expecting to be her savior. She’d held her own in that fight. She didn’t need me to protect her, just to have her back the way I’d done when I saw his face, watched him shift, cheating to gain an advantage.
When I’d see the murder in his soulless black eyes. I’d been ready to take us both into the ravine when I realized Jay intended to kill her. Even when he was on his ass and obviously defeated.
He couldn’t be allowed near her. Jay hated her more than any of us, whatever his reasons. He would’ve kept trying, and eventually he would have succeeded, given the chance.
The minutes stretched into one hour, then two, and still I couldn’t sleep.
I glanced across the fire and met Rebecca’s eyes as she stared back at me, as if her mind was in the same fantasies I couldn’t shake. I could almost feel the warmth in her face as her cheeks flushed and she dropped her gaze to the ground in front of her.
Cody sauntered over, oblivious to our silent exchange, and curled up with his head in her lap. Ben had taken up the watch position, gazing intently out into the dark, his eyes gone wolf, yellow, like a natural wolf’s would be.
“Hey, Ben. I can’t sleep. How about I just start early? I won’t be able to close my eyes tonight, I might as well make myself useful.
